After
the failed attempt at creating Titans LA, along came John
Arcudi's Doom Patrol .
Gar didn't become a full time member, but
he's appeared in several issues. In a way, you might say he's come full
circle. Tan
Eng Huat drew the comics, but Seth Fisher filled in for him once.

Tan Eng Huat, IIRC,
hails from Malaysia. His art often
inspired debates across the Doom
Patrol forums as whether or not
it could be considered "manga-style" or "manga-influenced." Several
manga expert friends of mine quite definitely call his work "Southeast
Asian Style," and say that there is actually quite distinct differences
between it and manga (which specifically refers to comics from Japan).
For my taste, Huat's rendition of Gar tends to be too straight line.
One frequent complaint is that, if you take away the coloring and hair
of the characters, they all look the same.
You be the judge.

Patrol story featuring a flashback with
Gar. It's one of the better moments for Huat

One of the
better pages by Huat - this is a "flashback" style story taking
characters back into an ancient Chinese story. |
